Good morning! I thought Friday would be a good day to write this post as many of us like to go out on the weekends. A few of you have recently asked about my favorite local restaurants, so I thought I would share some of my favorites spots, and what I like to order when I go there. I will say that we do eat at home about 90% of the time, but during those other times we like to frequent our favorite spots.
In Ventura we are blessed with a plethora of great restaurants, with many of them being locally owned (non-chain), which I love! We try our best to support our local businesses as best as we can, and restaurants are a great way of doing so. Plus, I've always been a fan of any local spot (in any city) as they have so much charm and history. Isn't that great?
I broke them down into a few categories:
Coffee (because coffee most definitely deserves it's own category, right?):
Great coffee, but if I am in the mood for something fancy, I order their Ancho Chile Mocha with almond milk. Sooo good, and such a treat! Plus, they also have handmade gelato and the cutest gift shop in the back!
Honestly, their entire menu is amazing, so you can't really go wrong. They are "Californian Cuisine," which is right up my alley. I like the Eggs Nouveau (vegetarian/Californian version of Eggs Benedict), as well as their Seafood Omelette (trust me). We like to go here after church on Sunday's, and while there is usually a wait, it is always worth it. The atmosphere is great too, as the restaurant is a 1920's style Spanish Bungalow.
I have to admit that while I have lived it Ventura for years, I only recently started coming here. However, the food is delicious! One word: Chilaquiles. Do it!
Midtown Cafe is the new(er) kid on the block, and they have great food! I love their vegetarian version of the Green Burrito. Amazing! They serve lunch too!
No matter what I get here, I always feel satisfied without feeling like I over did it. A few of my faves are the Tostada Salad, Falafel Pita, Zen Burger and the Carrot Shake with soy ice cream (to share) for dessert.
I feel like Mary's is such a hidden gem. Everything is made conciously and with love, which is my favorite part of this place. Everything on the menu is flavorful, nutritious and absolutely delicious. I love Mary's Raw Tostada and Tofu Broccoli Pad Thai best.
The Pad Kee Mao is amazing and full of veggies, and if you're in the mood for something more traditional, their Pad Thai is great too!
Mai's is one of the restaurants that we frequent most. Her veggie pho is the best I've ever had (and I always have leftovers)! Seriously, it's magical! We like to start with the veggie spring rolls too. Yum! Plus, everyone that works there is so kind!
Okay, so let me preface that I am a bit partial to Casa. This is a special spot to not only myself, but to many Venturans. Casa has been around since 1958! I'll start by saying that this is not a "healthy" restaurant, but they don't claim to be either! It is traditional Mexican cuisine, which usually means lots of love, and LOTS of cheese. With that being said, you can definitely find healthy options on their menu. First of all, Casa has the best margarita you will ever drink, and some of the best food too! I love their grilled shrimp soft tacos, as well as their veggie tostada and chile relleno. Yum! It's all about balance, baby!
Aww, Greg and I had our first date here. That set aside, the sushi is so fresh, and absolutely amazing! We always share different things, but our faves include the Golf Pro hand roll and the Hawaiian Poki Roll. So good!
Cafe Zack is definitely a "special occasion" restaurant for us. It's Greg's favorite, and one of mine too. Definitely more of a steak and seafood place with minimal vegetarian/vegan options. However, their fish is always delicious, and that's what I love there. Plus, the wine selection is great!
Not only does Cafe Fiore have great food, but they have some of the best cocktails around. I love their Insalata di Calamari e Grancho (Calamari salad), and their homemade Gnocchi is heaven on a plate!
I know that there are so many amazing local spots, but these are a few of mine. What are yours, and what do you like to order when you go there? I'd love to know!
